Overview of The College
The college was established in 1946, and is affiliated to the Punjabi University, Patiala. The college has been accredited with B+ grade by NAAC. The main building of the college is surrounded by beautiful shady fruit trees, was especially built as the summer palace of the Maharaja. Also famous as “PUCCA BAGH” the main college building is a wonderful and rare monument of fine architecture. The patriotic Maharaja, H.H. Ripudaman Singh was exiled by the British Government. He donated his summer palace to start the college in order to provide higher education at low cost to the aspiring learners and less privileged section of the society. Thus, the college owes its existence to the benevolence and philanthropy of Maharaja Ripudaman Singh, one of the few Nationalist kings of the time. Upholding the noble traditions laid down by the founders, the institution surges ahead towards excellence. A vast majority of the students belong to the surrounding rural areas. The college has steadily grown, fulfilling its aims and goals. It offers undergraduate courses in Science, Commerce and Humanities and Postgraduate courses in English, Economics and Political Science. P.G.D.C.A., B.C.A. and M.Sc IT (Lateral Entry) are offered under Self Finance Scheme. Many old students of the college have made their mark in life, having reached top position in I.A.S., P.C.S., I.R.S., and P.P.S., in the Army and in Politics. Many renowned educationists and scholars have served the college as Principals. The teachers of the college are highly qualified and competent. There are many Ph.D’s and M.Phil’s among the faculty. Several Faculty members are pursuing Ph.D at present. The faculty members update their knowledge/skills by participating in Refresher and Orientation courses, seminars/workshops/conferences etc.
The Insignia of the college “Horse and Lion” are symbols of agility and power. The words inscribed under Insignia “Nulli Secundus” means “Second to None” and the college fulfills it.
